Virgil van Dijk is set to become the highest paid player in Liverpool history after agreeing a £220,000-a-week deal.

It ends any fears of the 28-year-old signing for French giants Paris Saint-Germain who have made it known that they want to sign him.

Van Dijk currently earns £180,000-a-week and could have earned another £100,000 on top of that if he had signed for Thomas Tuchel's side. 

The former Southampton defender is understood to be happy with the £40,000- a week rise that's will take him above current top earner Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool superstar Salah currently earns £200,000-a-week and will see his team-mate now earn more than him.

Van Dijk signed from Southampton for £75million in what was a world-record fee for a defender at the time in January 2018.
